Region & Tradition
Catalonia is Spain's most north-easterly region. Situated across the Pyrenees mountains from France it is the gateway to southern Europe. The airports at Barcelona, Gerona and Reus offer regular well-priced flights to the UK and throughout Europe. France is only a couple of hours drive by car.
All the way along Catalonia's 350 miles of Mediterranean coastline you will find seaside towns, long sandy beaches and rocky cliffs with pretty bays. The beautiful scenery, mild climate, and fantastic food and wine make Catalonia an ideal place to live. There are plenty of golf courses and for those who enjoy water sports the entire coast is at your disposal. The Pyrenees offer excellent skiing in the winter and the national parks are ideal for walkers and nature lovers.
Unlike other parts of coastal Spain the majority of owners of second residences in Catalonia are Catalan or Spanish. This means that there is always a market for second homes and that property in Catalonia is an excellent investment. Both coastal and inland areas offer a wide variety of residential urbanisations with individual detached villas, often with swimming pools. There are also a number of residential communities with communal gardens, pools and tennis courts. Inside the towns and villages there is a good choice of apartments and townhouses. It is also still possible to find traditional farmhouses with land as well as village properties to renovate.
